    Description

Here we are offering a very nice original British World War I bronze memorial medallion, commonly known as a death penny. It was produced to honor Rifleman Alan Hawksworth Wright. It measures approximately 4.75 inches in diameter and weighs 12.3 ounces.
Alan Hawksworth Wright was a student at Alleyn’s until 1916 and lived at 1 Brannagh Road, Brixton. He joined the war effort shortly after leaving school as part of the 21st Battalion, London Regiment (First Surrey Rifles) and served overseas on the Western Front as a Rifleman. In 1918, he was serving in France during the Allied Hundred Days Offensive when he was killed in action on August 13th, at the age of 18. He is buried at Bonnay Communal Cemetery.
WE DO NOT HAVE THE PHOTOGRAPH. IT IS FOR REFERENCE ONLY AND IS NOT INCLUDED.
Overall it is in great shape, but does show some signs of wear. Please see photos as they are a major part of the description. Feel free to ask any questions before bidding. Thanks and good luck!
    Edit:
We received a message from someone stating that they were sure this plaque was issued to a different soldier that died of the flu in 1920. He stated this soldier was born in Maine and then joined the Canadian army. We are not sure of the accuracy of this, especially since this person died in 1920 of non war-related causes, but we wanted to add the info just in case.
