Description

Motorcyclists of the 1930s often wore high quality leather riding gauntlets to protect their hands from rain, wind, and weather. This pair of Vintage 1930s WILLIAM SYKES ENGLISH MADE HORSEHIDE LEATHER MOTORCYCLE GAUNTLETS are in good condition, with some drying, scuffing, and darkening to the palm and front fingers of the left gauntlet, some scattered mothing and tearing to the wrist linings, a deep scuff in the back right wrist, some scattered scratching, scuffing, and darkening throughout, and with some overall age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the gauntlets are in fine shape, with no other damage to the tough brown horsehide leather construction. Most interestingly, they are a Size 8 1/2, boast the classic triple seams along the middle backs, and carry the model, "Tough Wear", lightly stamped at each front wrist. The left glove sports the original "WM Sykes" and "MADE IN ENGLAND" labels at the interior, the right glove bears the original "GUARANTEED WOOL" label inside, and they both feature brown finished metal "NEWEY" glove snap closure leather adjustment straps at the middle fronts. A fine example of rare, original Vintage 1930s WILLIAM SYKES ENGLISH MADE HORSEHIDE LEATHER MOTORCYCLE GAUNTLETS. We have shown a photo of the famous English motorcycle racer and designer Howard R. Davies in the 1920s wearing similar motorcycle gauntlets. Now celebrating over 20 years on eBay.
