Vintage Christian Wood Mask - Moor & Christian Dance
Mexican Folk Art
Man with horse-hair mustach and beard, pink complexion (fair), sunburned cheeks and forehead and red lips, which is indicitive of a Christain in the dance drama
The mask measures 10 inches in height (not including hair) and about 6 inches across at its widest point.
There are holes at the side of his head for stringing cord for wearing or wire for easy hanging.
The mask is particularly well done and a comfortable fit... certainly created with the intention for wear
Paint chips missing on mask edges and on the nose, consistant with age and wear.

According to popular tradition the festivals commemorate the battles, combats and fights between Moors (i.e. Muslims) and Christians during the period known as Reconquista (from the 8th century through the 15th century).
