Here is a vintage Transfer Applique and Embroidery designs pattern. These are heat set transfers from Butterick #3584. These are the complete uncut patterns and come with detailed instructions for the heat transfer and the detailed stitches.  These are one time use patterns and there are 21 different designs.
These are the type that you would iron the transfer to your fabric, and then use heat and bond on the back to adhere to your fabric. Cut it out and iron onto your project. Then stitch around it in a decorative stitch.
