  • Condition: Excellent pre-owned condition. This mask is flawless with no chips, cracks or other defects. The turquoise blue color is beautifully vibrant and the mother of pearl inlay nicely accents the face. The black base is free of defects and the eyes and mouth have their original shape. There is still a sticker on the bottom that says "Piedra Mascara" translated it means "Stone Mask"; the sticker leads me to believe the mask was made in Mexico.

    Description

    Mayan Mosaic Burial Mask
    Archeologists discovered masks with the remains of buried Mayans. The Mayans are thought to have placed a burial mask on the deceased to represent the person’s changing status: from a being of this life to one of the next. Burial masks were often made of jade, stucco, or wood.
