    Description

The Bookbinders Workshop "Spine-Adhere" is an ingenious innovation to the craft of hand bookbinding. The tool is used to effectively apply (and hold in place) gentle downward pressure to the spines of books in the process of "re-backing" or covering with any material including cloth, leather, vellum, paper, or virtually any covering material. The Spine-Adhere comes complete with a soft cloth backing and Velcro strips applied to the boards, 2 pieces 12" long of each 1", 1 1/2" and 2" wide Velcro strips, 4' of cord to use when tying down raised bands.
The inside cloth-lined boards 'sandwich' the book that has been re-backed or covered, and the solid wood 'runners' rest on the cheeks of the press. With everything tight and in place, lay a strip of silicon release paper onto spine and tie it up using the side pegs. If the spine does not have raised cords, then (with the silicon release paper is laid on) continue on with applying to the spine the cloth backed Velcro strips, with moderate pressure. These are applied evenly left/right so as not to pull the spine material more one way than another. Leave to dry for the desired amount of time. When removed, you'll find a perfectly formed, beautiful spine. Re-backs are far more 'blended-in' on both leather and cloth, and new leather and cloth bindings appear immaculate!
